The workshop provides an opportunity for vital personal and professional healing, growth and change. It is important work that, done in a circle of fellow participants, expands out into the world. SCOTT PECKS VISION
“There is a yearning in the heart for peace. Because of the wounds and rejections, we have received in past relationships, we are frightened by the risks. In our fear, we discount the dream of authentic Community as merely visionary. But there are rules by which people can come back together, by which the old wounds can be healed. The purpose of Community Building is to teach these rules — to make hope real again — and to make the vision actually manifest in a world which has almost forgotten the glory of what it means to be human.”
Authentic relationship, connection and community are the delivery system for a healthy and meaningful life and positive change. Learning and experiencing effective tools and methods to build connection and relationship is more important than ever.
The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated a long-time trend of a great and rapid loss of community – and an increase in isolation, loneliness, and polarization. This loss of community is a source for many of our social ills. The common thread is our lack of authentic, healthy connection to one another, and our inability to see and appreciate the full dignity of each other.
Because of bad past experiences and a current culture of incivility, many people believe peace, connection and community are no longer possible. But there are skills, tools and principles that can heal old wounds and bring people back together.
This training teaches proven methods to collapse time and quickly build safety, connection, respect and relationship – even with people very different than you. Genuine community requires understanding and following specific guidelines. This training provides an opportunity to practice and learn these “keys”, guidelines and skills – and experience the power of genuine community.
This is a unique and highly participatory workshop including dyad and small group work, short lectures and group circle time. Facilitators provide key takeaway and debriefing comments. There is a focus on what it means to truly listen, communicate and connect deeply and authentically – beyond commonly taught “techniques.” Exercises are based on the work of M.Scott Peck, MD.
The Community Building process can also be viewed as a group mindfulness or contemplative experience. What is unique is that the goal is not only for the individual but the group as a whole to enter into the present moment and experience connection and Community. Both individuals and the group let go of barriers, obstacles and excessive dependence on thinking – and move toward deeper levels of awareness, authentic connection and peace.
